President Obama designated new national monuments using his authority under the Antiquities Act during his Administration.
There are photographs of President Obama signing a proclamation to designate Ft. Monroe, in Hampton, Virginia, a National Monument, on November 1, 2011. There are also photos of President Obama designating five other new National Monuments, including the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument in Ohio and the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Monument in Maryland, during a signing ceremony on March 25, 2013. Both occurred in the Oval Office.
