Photographs of the State Dinner in Honor of Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, 2011

The White House hosted a State Dinner in honor of Germany on June 7, 2011.  The State Dinner honored Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and her husband Dr. Joachim Sauer.

There are photos of Chancellor Merkel’s arrival; a reception on the Truman Balcony; greeting guests in the Blue Room; President Obama and Chancellor Merkel delivering remarks; President Obama presenting Chancellor Merkel with the Presidential Medal of Freedom; and performances by the National Symphony Orchestra and James Taylor. There are also photos of Mrs. Obama and National Security Staff Chief of Staff Brooke Anderson hosting high school students during the Official State Dinner Press Preview.

The Executive Office of the President (EOP) instance of the Electronic Records Archive (ERA) contains electronic records created or received by Obama administration staff. These records are stored in Search and Access Sets (SAS) that represent their originating computer program, such as the White House Photo System.

The photographs are a subseries of a larger series, which includes all photographs taken by White House photographers during the Obama administration.  This subseries is arranged chronologically by the photo identifier (P number), which is formatted as PMMDDYYXX-####:

  • MMDDYY (Date of image capture)
  • XX (Photographer’s initials)

  • Frame number
