President Obama received this gift from artist Thomas Tenorio of Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM. Tenorio produces an array of large-scale pots and vessels that showcase traditional Kewa Pueblo methods and designs for making pottery such as techniques of gathering and processing clay and pigments, shaping vessels, and firing outdoors. This is a Kewa Pueblo polychrome (many colors) vase with black and orange designs of a flower, a bird, and various geometric shapes on a buff slip. The designs on the jar show a mix of traditional and contemporary influence. It is signed on the bottom "Thomas Tenorio Kewa, New Mexico 2009."
